MinnCAN’s

Teacher Advocacy Toolkit

how to use
this toolkit

MinnCAN developed this advocacy toolkit to empower educators to raise their voice in the community and at the Capitol.

Who is this toolkit for?

This toolkit is for teachers, because teachers are the number one in-school factor for student success, and teachers should be leading both in school transformation and in education policy. We created this toolkit with input from teachers like you, who want to have a voice in policy issues that affect our classrooms.

Step 2

School

Is your school getting it done? Does your school have policies and practices that promote excellence? Do you have the external structures, relationships, and activities that create a positive work environment?

Contents
  • Build your own school snapshot
  • Institutional support assessment
  • External assets questions
  • Now what? Ideas to action prompts

How can you make the most of this toolkit?

This toolkit gives you tools to network with other teachers, learn how our state legislators develop education policy and understand your role in advocacy—both at your school and within the larger community. Start with our personal advocacy self-assessment, and determine your own path!

What can you learn from this toolkit?

The toolkit is organized under three advocacy lenses:

Step 1

SELF

Start with yourself! Take stock of your strengths and challenges so that you can capitalize on your assets and take next steps to help yourself become a strong education advocate.
